  • Current distribution known : C. taenia is one of the most widely distributed freshwater fish species in Eurasia. It ranges across Siberia, central Russia, and Europe into England and to the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula. It occurs in Italy, and is one of the few native freshwater fishes on Sicily. The southern limits of its distribution in eastern Asia, which may overlap with the ranges of other species of Cobitis, is poorly known. In Africa it is known only from the Sebou drainage in the Rif Mountains, adjacent to the Strait .
