Hemichromis guttatus Günther, 1862 a: 275. Type locality unknown. "Erroneously described as from the Cape of Good Hope....the original label bears the indication "Cape of Ceylon". (Boulenger, 1907 l: 464, foot note)". Holotype BMNH n°1860.4.19: 2; paratypes (2) BMNH n° 1860.4.19: 3-4.
