  • Current distribution known : found from the Mbei (or Mbe) and Como River drainage systems in northwestern Gabon southward across western Gabon and Cabinda to the Chiloanga River. Also extends to Angola, Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo .
  • Ecology : not a seasonal killifish .
  • Food habits : ants and other insects .
  • Genetics : Huber & Scheel, 1981 .
  • Habitat : coastal swamps and swampy parts of brooks and small streams in the coastal rainforest .
  • Reproduction : Holler, 1978 a | laying adhesive egg on aquatic plants and roots; 3 weeks incubation | Winkler, 1938 .
  • Size : 55 mm TL .
  • Types :
    • Aphyosemion simulans Radda & Huber, 1976: 186, fig. 6. Type locality: "Bach im Regenwald an der Strasse von Libreville nach Kap Esterias, nahe Kap Esterias", northwestern Gabon (00°37'N-09°21'E). Holotype and paratype NMW, registration numbers unknown; paratypes MRAC n° 77-17-P-474-476 (3).
    • Aphyosemion striatum microphtalmum Lambert & Géry, 1968: 299, fig. 1-2, map. Type locality: "PK 85 de la route Pointe Noire-Sunda", western Congo (04°16'S-12°19'E). Holotype MRAC n° 164.733; paratypes MRAC n° 140.057-140.058 (2).
    • Panchax escherichi Ahl, 1924: 304. Type locality: "Attogondema, Cameroon" [this region of Cameroon now belongs to Gabon] (0.850°N-10.250°E). Lectotype: ZMB 21936. Paralectotypes: ZMB 31488 [ex ZMB 21936].
